The closed beta for Amazon Games’ new MMO New World has been marred by reports that the game has bricked some players’ Nvidia RTX 3090 graphics cards. In a statement shared Wednesday, Amazon says that it has seen “no indication of widespread issues with 3090s,” but will be releasing a patch anyway.

With hundreds of thousands of players opting into the closed beta for Amazon Games Studios’ new MMO, New World, the influx of players onto the game’s servers was immense. Many of those players, though, experienced issues with the game’s performance and optimization settings, especially in regard to the way the game ran in correlation with high-performance graphics cards.

New World players on Reddit and beyond were claiming that 100 percent of their GPU was being used up by the New World closed beta. And in some cases, the game’s client was reportedly completely rendering their graphics card unusable.

Surfing through the New World official forums, other users shared similar horror stories that their EVGA RTX 3090 GPU have died when plying the closed beta. Some users are reporting similar issues, but it appears EVGA's RTX 3090 is the only card reportedly being bricked by the New World closed beta. Though I did notice one user with a Gigabyte RTX 3090 report that their GPU was allegedly bricked also.

EVGA has said it will replace all failed RTX 3090s following issues relating to Amazon's MMO, New World.

EVGA didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment, but a company representative told Windows Central that “at the moment we are dealing with specific problems, if it is a problem really confirmed we will inform and inform you in our EVGA forums on our website.” But if you’ve got a 3090 card of any kind, you might want to wait to play the game until Amazon’s patch is out just in case.
